Lik-Sang.com Out of Business due to Multiple Sony Lawsuits

    OUT OF BUSINESS NOTICE

Hong Kong, October 24th of 2006 - Lik-Sang.com, the popular gaming retailer from Hong Kong, has today announced that it is forced to close down due to multiple legal actions brought against it by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Sony claimed that Lik-Sang infringed its trade marks, copyright and registered design rights by selling Sony PSP consoles from Asia to European customers, and have recently obtained a judgment in the High Court of London (England) rendering Lik-Sang's sales of PSP consoles unlawful.

As of today, Lik-Sang.com will not be in the position to accept any new orders and will cancel and refund all existing orders that have already been placed. Furthermore, Lik-Sang is working closely with banks and PayPal to refund any store credits held by the company, and the customer support department is taking care of any open transactions such as pending RMAs or repairs and shipping related matters. The staff of Lik-Sang will make sure that nobody will get hurt in the crossfire of this ordeal.

A Sony spokesperson declined to comment directly on the lawsuit against Lik-Sang, but recently went on to tell Gamesindustry.biz that "ultimately, we're trying to protect consumers from being sold hardware that does not conform to strict EU or UK consumer safety standards, due to voltage supply differences et cetera; is not - in PS3's case - backwards compatible with either PS1 or PS2 software; will not play European Blu-Ray movies or DVDs; and will not be covered by warranty".

Lik Sang strongly disagrees with Sony's opinion that their customers need this kind of protection and pointed out that PSP consoles shipped from Lik-Sang contained genuine Sony 100V-240V AC Adapters that carry CE and other safety marks and are compatible world wide. All PSP consoles were in conformity with all EU and UK consumer safety regulations.

Furthermore, Sony have failed to disclose to the London High Court that not only the world wide gaming community in more than 100 countries relied on Lik-Sang for their gaming needs, but also Sony Europe's very own top directors repeatedly got their Sony PSP hard or software imports in nicely packed Lik-Sang parcels with free Lik-Sang Mugs or Lik-Sang Badge Holders, starting just two days after Japan's official release, as early as 14th of December 2004 (more than nine months earlier than the legal action). The list of PSP related Sony Europe orders reads like the who's who of the videogames industry, and includes Ray Maguire (Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Alan Duncan (UK Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Chris Sorrell (Creative Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Rob Parkin (Development Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited), just to name a few.

"Today is Sony Europe victory about PSP, tomorrow is Sony Europe’s ongoing pressure about PlayStation 3. With this precedent set, next week could already be the stage for complaints from Sony America about the same thing, or from other console manufacturers about other consoles to other regions, or even from any publisher about any specific software title to any country they don’t see fit. It’s the beginning of the end... of the World as we know it", stated Pascal Clarysse, formerly known as the Marketing Manager of Lik-Sang.com.

"Blame it on Sony. That's the latest dark spot in their shameful track record as gaming industry leader. The Empire finally 'won', few dominating retailers from the UK probably will rejoice the news, but everybody else in the gaming world lost something today."

DAMN IT!! This was the best online store I ever found and where I got most of my games. -_- I already didn't like Sony, now I officially HATE THEM!! >=(

You might remember my last post and my fear for what was going to be done with Astroboy...well..looks like things have changed.

    http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/732/732672p1.html

If the Imagi Studios do a job as good as they seem to be doing with the Turtles and if they don't mess with Tezuka's original design then this movies has a fairly good change of being great. =)

    a bad omen?
    http://www.themovieinsider.com/movies/mid/44/Astro_Boy

Ok..now I'm officially scared. A feature length Astroboy movie that's NOT going to be produced in Japan, that's NOT going to be in traditional 2D animation, and worse NOT produced by Tezuka Productions or any other decent animation studio. That DOESN'T sound good at all. >_<

    TEZUKA-SENSEI!! HELP US PLEASE!!!

    Future of mankind?
I had a very interesting surprise this morning. After checking my email on Yahoo I decided to take a look at its new feature..the Yahoo! Answers, where a user makes questions and other users answer them.

Nothing spectecular so far but I just noticed the famous physicist, Dr. Stephen Hawking, is one of the users. o_o I watched a series of documentaries about him and his theories and couldn't help but to admire him and his amazing intelect, even if he's imprisoned in a decaying body. Here is the question he made:

"How can the human race survive the next hundred years?
In a world that is in chaos politically, socially and environmentally, how can the human race sustain another 100 years?
    "

I'm not sure mankind can survive another 100 years at this rate...and probably won't unless people change drastically the way they are mistreating our mother earth and stop all the foolish conflicts that spread around the world.

Now...I pass this question to you my friends. I'm curious to know what your answers will be. =) I'm serious...so if you read this and have some time to spare...let me know what you think ok?

(btw...yeah. I get to talk about serious matters like this too. ^_^)

    bored as well..
Heh...Karma tagged everyone and since I had nothing to do. <=)

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

    1. "Ragnarok Opening Theme - We are the Stars"
    2. "Final Fantasy 2 Battle song"
    3. "Lunar: Eternal Blue - Final Boss song"
    4. "DragonBall Opening Theme - Makafushigi Adventure"
    5. "Saint Seiya Opening Theme - Pegasus Fantasy"
    6. "Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hills Zone song" ^_^
    7. "Streets of Rage Boss song"

I tag...er...oh hell...who ever wants to do this is ok to me. <=)

...and the worst is, according to some local news I just read, the government made a "deal" with the crime leaders to stop that wave of violence. Make a deal? With criminals? Damn!! What's wrong with this fucking country!! >=( I feel like building a raft and venture into the seas...

    animation heaven

I found something very nice recently. I'm sure most of you know the YouTube.com site...there are tons of videos there from funny to horrible.

Well..one day I tried using some keywords and for my pleasure I found quite a god amount of classic cartoon shorts and what's better...most are UNCUT. =D I used to watch those when I was young and man...I LOVE THEM! ^_^ Too bad they're now either banned or badly edited.

Here are some of the keywords I used:
Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, Don Bluth, MGM, Warner Bros, Disney, Banned Cartoons.

    Have fun guys. =)

    How can this be?
I usually watch the news on TV and I saw something quite disturbing. An unbelievable change in our penalty laws that will allow the worst criminals you can imagine to be set free under these circumstances: They go out during the day so they can "supposedly" go find a job or something but they gotta go back and spend the night in jail. (Yeah...sure they will go back >=( )

Think...only in the city of Sao Paulo, around 1200 rapists, murderrers, drug dealers, kidnappers and gangsters will be set free to walk among the citizens. Would you feel safe in a place like that? Is that the place I might need to spend 2 whole years in?

Now tell me, my friends, what do you think of this? What would you do if such thing happened where you live?

    A hard decision...
Ok...almost everybody who knows me also knows how much I want to move out of Brazil. Lately...I've been searching the net out for colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada that have courses on animated cartoons and computer animation, working in this area is a really old dream of mine and the recent frustrations I had at my current job made I feel tempted on following it.

The matter is...all places I found are awfully expensive, there's no way I can afford for it and it seems I also can't get financial aid since the U.S. Government doesn't aid foreign students (I still have to check about the Canada government though). But recently I've found a place called "Academy of Animation and Digital Arts" in Sao Paulo, Brazil. (Sao Paulo is to us brazilians sort of what New York is for the americans with one BIG difference...Sao Paulo is a big-whole-huge lot more violent and dangerous.)

I checked on this academy and they got courses on both traditional 2D animation and computer animation, it might not be as well known as the american colleges but it seems offer what I look for and I can afford it...though...if I go for it means I'll not only have to stay here for 2 more years but also that I'll have to move out and live in the most dangerous city of the country..not to mention that would delay my plans of moving to U.S., meeting my friends and being with Carrie. -_-

I have until August to make my mind and get ready if I decide to go...I just wanted to share it with you all and hear what you think about it.
